Sparkling Clear Atlanta

All of the pictures today were taken at the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site. We saw where he was born, grew up, preached, and was layed to rest. The wagon that carried him to his final resting place is in the museum and his wife, Coretta, was buried beside him in 2006. It was a thrill to see the three medals he received from the NAAPC and the U.S. President's medal, along with the Nobel Peace Prize he was awarded in 1964.
We left Savannah this morning under cloudy skies. We were all tired, but I was out on my feet, so they put me in the back seat and I was asleep before we got out to the city limits! Probably worn out from digesting all that southern cooking we have been consuming! When I woke up as we zipped through Macon on Interstate 75 the sun was shining brightly. We fortunately missed all the traffic around the Atlanta Speedway where NASCAR races were going on and zipped into town and found the correct Peachtree St! Turns out there are about 13 Peachtree Streets in Atlanta (WHY?) and on our second try we got the right one.
We are staying at an AmeriSuites hotel. It is very confortable with a little kitchen and they provide a free shuttle around the downtown area which we have already availed ourselves of! We checked in and unloaded the car and took the shuttle to the Martin Luther King Jr. Historical Site. Much of it is brand new and the Ebenezer Baptist Church has built a new facility. The National Park Service is refurbishing the old church where MLK preached along with his father and where so many important speeches of the Civil Rights movement came from. We spent several hours wandering around the area. It was very quiet as it is Sunday. No traffic which was nice and when we were finished we just called the shuttle and they came and got us! Could we have used this service in Williamsburg!!!
Had an ok to poor dinner next door at a brewery/grill. Waitress was full of stories about being 26 years old with a 15 year old son and she is a grandmother. Have to hope and pray much of her story was for effect. It is off to bed and up early tomorrow. I am going to the Jimmy Carter Library and Lee and Judy are going to the High Museum of Art. Then we will meet at CNN for a tour. All of this will be coordinated with the free shuttle. Stay tuned to see if this really works out!
